No, we are not living in Iron-age but I am intrigued as I see the evolution of web. Take for example the individual blogger that allows various companies to place their adverts on personal blog. Some of these companies offer money in lieu of every hit and some of these offer product credit points. It means that, after certain number of hits, the blogger can get a product for free. Isn’t that barter system, like the old times? Blogger offers web space in exchange with the product.

There will be a day when the money will not be the currency to trade or buy a product; instead the web clicks/traffic to your website will define how rich you are. Look at the website evaluation tools on the web. These tools check various parameters for any website like traffic, number of hits, and number of search engines that recognize or route traffic to your website, etc. These tools also give an estimated price of the domain name, usually based on web traffic and page rank. So, we have come to times where we can define the price of virtual things. Make a crap website; get a lot of hits with web advertisement and social media marketing for free and that will increase the price of your domain name that you bought for a mere $10
